The Great School Run of Henley

Sunday 30th April 2023 from 9am

A fun morning of cross-country races at Stonor Park for school and nursery children and their grown-ups...

We're thrilled to announce that The Great School Run of Henley is back after last year's success, hooray! It’s not a school run of the ordinary kind, not the quick dash from home to the classroom. It’s not just a competition either. The Great School Run is a celebration of community spirit and the joy of running.

The event idea came together in a collaboration between Rupert House School and Stonor Park with the vision to create an inclusive sports event that would bring the local school and nursery community together and keep children and adults active. This year the event is being hosted as part of the Education Henley initiative.

Come together and join us on Sunday 30th April 2023 for a great morning of cross-country races in the beautiful setting of Stonor Park. All children of local schools and nurseries are warmly invited to run age appropriate distances in their year groups: from the tiniest sprinters in the nursery to the seasoned runners in Year 11, we believe that running is for everyone, and that it's a great way to have fun and inspire a love for fitness. So if you grown-ups feel up for it, we would love you to join our races and be a role model for our children.

Community spirit:

Race entry and registration are free of charge. We would love to use this opportunity to make a real difference on top of having fun and collect voluntary contributions in the form of a suggested donation of £2 per race for Sue Ryder, a charity close to the hearts of so many.

You can find out more about the wonderful work their local care hub do here: https://www.sueryder.org/how-we-can-help/sue-ryder-palliative-care-hub-south-oxfordshire.

Please follow this link to donate: https://www.justgiving.com/page/greatschoolrun.

Registration:

It is possible to register in-person on the day, so you can just ‘show up and run’. For our planning it would be really helpful if you could register online in advance. Please do so using the following link: Buy The Great School Run 2023 Tickets online - Stonor Park (digitickets.co.uk)

Facilities:

Free parking and toilet facilities are available on the day and the possibility to buy some delicious refreshments. Please bring some cash as card payments don’t always work in our area of weak or no phone signal.

Supervision:

Please be aware that children’s supervision will strictly be their guardians’ responsibility at all times. Where appropriate, you may want to encourage your little race participants to run independently by following our friendly ‘hares’. Hugs and high-fives will be waiting for them at the finish line. If you are planning to run yourself in the grown-up races (hooray!), it is your responsibility to ensure that your child is looked after.

Clothing:

Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes for running on grass, no spikes are allowed. You are very welcome to come in your school’s PE kit as proud ambassadors if you would like. Please remove any jewellery that could get caught.

What to bring:

Please bring your own water bottles to ensure you stay hydrated and cash should you wish to buy any treats or donate to our charitable cause. Card payments may not be available on the day.

Photography:

Please let our friendly team at the Registration Desk know on the day if you don’t give permission for your photo to be taken or shared in the local press or on the school’s website.

Dogs:

While dogs are allowed on the estate if kept on leads at all times, they are not allowed at Tumblestone Hollow. To minimise distraction from the race, we would encourage you to please leave your dogs at home where possible.

Choosing a race:

At the Great School Run, we believe in promoting an inclusive, respectful and welcoming environment for all participants. Whether you identify as male, female, or prefer not to associate with a specific gender, you are welcome to participate in the race you feel is the best fit for you.

We really can’t wait to see you all on 30th April!
