Early Years and Foundation Stage (ages 3-5)
We welcome children from the September after they turn 3 into Nursery at Rupert House. These youngest members of our Rupert House family, along with children in our Reception year, constitute our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), where the children learn and develop through play in a happy, safe and exciting environment.
The EYFS is made up of seven areas of learning and forms the basis of the curriculum in these two year groups.
Communication and Language; Physical Development; and Personal, Social and Emotional Development are the three prime areas of the curriculum; with Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design being the four specific areas.
Across all classes, firm foundations are laid in the essential skills and the weekly timetable is structured to guarantee a varied and exciting programme, which offers a wide range of practical experiences intended to motivate and stimulate the children. Your child is encouraged to explore, investigate and use their imagination through innovative and engaging activities, both inside and outside, including at our own Forest School, which is offered on a two weekly basis from Nursery upwards.
In Reception, the children also benefit from weekly specialist teaching in Swimming, PE, ICT, music and French.
Pupils at Rupert House have the opportunity to learn French from Reception with a native French specialist teacher. At this stage, the children develop their listening and comprehension skills through songs and games. We believe that learning a language should be interactive, inspiring and fun.
Above all, learning is active and fun and our dedicated team of experienced and qualified staff work closely with parents to ensure that each child feels secure, confident and happy.
