International Studies

French breakfast

At Rupert House, we believe that fostering an international outlook is essential to preparing our pupils for life in a global and connected world. From learning new languages to celebrating diverse cultures, internationalism is woven into every aspect of school life.

French from Reception Upwards

Children begin learning French from Reception, with weekly lessons delivered by a specialist language teacher. As they progress through the school, they build both confidence and fluency. Highlights include a traditional French breakfast in Year 2 and a week-long residential trip to Northern France in Year 6, offering an immersive experience of French culture, history and language in context.

A Cross-Curricular Global Outlook

Our approach to international studies goes beyond language learning. Global themes are embedded across the curriculum to inspire curiosity and broaden understanding. Recent examples include:

  • Learning about Islam and world religions
  • Exploring European geography and culture
  • Studying the vibrant art of Tarsila do Amaral, a renowned Brazilian artist
  • Whole-school celebrations of Chinese New Year, Japanese culture, and Ekiden during 2025

We also host a bi-annual International Week, where each class explores a different country or culture in depth—bringing internationalism to life through food, music, art, language, and more.

Recognised for Excellence

In 2025, we were proud to receive the Foundation Level of the British Council’s International School Award, in recognition of our commitment to bringing the world into the classroom. This award reflects our ambition to prepare Rupert House pupils to be open-minded, culturally aware and globally engaged.

"We are delighted that the British Council has recognised the work we do at Rupert House to encourage our children to be fascinated by the world around them. Our children are global citizens, and it is important that they enjoy learning about other cultures, faiths, and perspectives."

A Community of Global Citizens

We are fortunate to have a diverse school community, with many parents hailing from different countries. Their contributions enrich our pupils’ learning—whether through sharing traditions, telling stories, or leading workshops.

In addition, we organise live virtual links with partner schools around the world, giving children the chance to communicate directly with their peers in different countries. These real-time conversations bring a unique and personal dimension to global learning.
