Head of Music and Performing Arts (maternity cover)

Rupert House is looking for a Head of Music & Performing Arts  - Maternity Cover (Sept 2022) 

Job Description (Part-time - 4 days per week (0.8 WTE):

  • Plan for and teach class music throughout the school, from Nursery to Year 6 

  • Plan for and teach a class singing lesson throughout the school from Nursery to Year 6 

  • Run weekly choir sessions for Pre-Prep, Prep School and Chamber Choir 

  • Organise and rehearse musical events such as School Carol Service, House Music Competition, Prep Easter Concert, School Easter service, including a parent choir to support the children at various events 

  • Organise and present Music assemblies, lunch time and evening concerts for parents 

  • Manage and support a department of peripatetic instrumental teachers 

  • Encourage the development of instrumental teaching and ensembles 

  • Produce musical play for the Prep School (Summer term) in the Kenton Theatre 

  • Work with the Pre-Prep teachers to support the music in Pre-Prep plays and performances (Christmas and Summer terms) 

  • Make use of all available technology to develop music within the school 

  • Teach Drama/Performing Arts to children in Years 3-6 

 

Person specification 

The successful candidate will: 

  • Be an excellent musician and passionate about the role of music and performing arts in the School. 

  • Be a capable and confident conductor with proven experience of running ensembles, including choirs at this level 

  • Be identified as an outstanding classroom teacher of Music & Performing Arts  

  • Have experience of directing school plays 

In addition they will have: 

  • A strong commitment to high academic standards and high standards of musical performance 

  • Some experience of successful management of or within a music department

Teaching Assistant

Rupert House is looking for a dynamic enthusiastic and skilled practitioner as a Teaching Assistant in our vibrant Pre-Prep department.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Experience of supporting children in a classroom environment, including those with a range of learning needs

• Experience of using Information Technology to support pupils in the classroom. Experience of EYFS would be preferable

• The school has an established induction programme.

Gap Students

Rupert House is looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic student to join our busy and happy school for the Spring & Summer Term 2023.

Ideal for a pre or post university or college student, candidates must possess good communication skills, be adaptable and be prepared to learn and take on responsibility.    

The successful candidates will:

  • Be an enthusiastic sportsperson and passionate about the role of sport in the School
  • Be a capable and confident communicator
  • Have the sporting knowledge, experience and willingness to lead games and activities for boys and girls at break times and during Games sessions. This will specifically include: football, rugby, cricket and hockey.
