  I can remember leaving my senior school and thinking ‘Who on earth would want to be a teacher, given the way we have treated them?’ Less than a year later, having worked at a Boys’ Prep School in South Africa as part of a GAP year pre-University, I had changed my mind dramatically, having had the most wonderful time. Following a degree in Art History at UEA and 5 years working in the Advertising industry in London, it took my wife’s questioning to nudge me to make the jump into teaching, from which I have never looked back.

  In 2021 I moved back to the UK from teaching in Spain and arrived at Rupert House, where I have been ever since. I started off as a Year 4 teacher before becoming Head of English, which I did for four years before becoming Deputy Head Academic in the spring of 2026. I adore Rupert House and everything we stand for here; I’ve never been happier as a teacher!

  I trained at the Roehampton Institute in London and worked as a Primary school teacher in West London then Marlow. After teaching for more than 25 years, I can honestly say I’ve found my home at Rupert House. I find it such a positive and exciting place to teach. I love the supportive, family atmosphere and the children and staff are fantastic; it’s a joy to come to work! Art is so very important. There are so many pressures on children nowadays and in the Art room they have a safe and inspiring place where they can explore their creativity. Here, we provide somewhere where the children can enjoy their interests and ideas and are able to unwind.

  During the past 30 years, I have taught apprentices, school children, international exchange students and helped the less practical with degrees and doctorates. Today, I find myself as Head of DT at Rupert House, and hope to develop younger children’s practical skills, giving them confidence with tools and various materials. But above all, I aim to open their eyes to design, and how it is a part of our everyday lives. How lucky am I?!

  I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, and supporting those first, exciting steps of learning. After a little detour at university studying Media Communications and Publishing, I found my way back to teaching and joined RHS and I haven’t looked back! I love the creativity, curiosity and enthusiasm that the children bring to RHS every day. I’m excited to take on the role of Head of Pre-Prep and am looking forward to supporting our children throughout their Pre-Prep journey, from their first days at school through to their transition into the Prep. I can’t wait to see the children grow in confidence, develop their independence and skills, and discover a lifelong love of learning that will carry them through their school journey.

  I am delighted to be returning to Rupert House School, where I was once a pupil myself, this time as Deputy Head Pastoral. Coming back to a school that played such an important part in my early years is a particularly special opportunity. Having taken a varied career path before following my ambition to become a teacher, I am thrilled to bring my experience, energy and passion for pastoral care back to the Rupert House community. I am looking forward to helping shape a shared culture rooted in strong relationships, inclusivity and wellbeing. I am excited to work collaboratively with colleagues, children and parents to build on the already supportive environment and to ensure that every young person feels valued, safe and able to thrive and shine.

  I have always believed that some of the most important parts of school life happen beyond the pages of an exercise book, whether on the sports field, at a swimming gala, exploring the world outside or simply through a conversation when a child needs a little extra support. My teaching career has taken me from Surrey to Beijing and back again, before I joined Rupert House in 2022. As a class teacher and Head of Prep Boys I particularly enjoy getting to know the children as individuals and supporting them both academically and pastorally as they make their way through the school. For me, the great joy of teaching is seeing children discover what they are capable of and develop the confidence, independence and resilience that will stay with them long after they leave the classroom.

  When I left school, I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do, so I popped off to France to work as a Gap Student for a term at Sauveterre and this is where I realised teaching might be something I’d love to do. I gained a Masters in English Literature from Glasgow University, then went to Reading to do my PGCE and the rest is history! I’m now 12 years into my teaching career and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. I believe in encouraging children to have high expectations for themselves and to always try their best - for me, effort is everything. I can’t wait to get stuck into life at Rupert House and I am looking forward to everything that’s yet to come.
