School Councils come together
Today, Rupert House was delighted to welcome the current members of the School Council from St Mary's Prep School for a collaborative meeting filled with discussion, ideas and shared experiences.
The children spent time talking about several important aspects of school life and enjoyed learning from one another's perspectives.
One of the key topics was the renaming of the Rupert House Houses, which will take place from September. The councils discussed the possibility of choosing names with a Henley theme, perhaps inspired by local roads, landmarks or famous people connected to the town. The School Council representatives will now take these ideas back to their classmates, who will have the opportunity to vote and help decide the new house names.
The children also compared the rewards and sanctions systems used in their schools. The St Mary's pupils explained the rewards they currently enjoy, including their weekly Sports Cup and Kindness Cup, which sparked plenty of interest from the Rupert House representatives. The councils discussed how similar initiatives could potentially be introduced at Rupert House to further celebrate sporting achievement and acts of kindness.
Finally, the two councils considered their respective school values. They were delighted to discover that both schools already share the values of Respect, Courage and Kindness. Following their discussions, it was agreed that the combined school values will also include Honesty and Resilience, creating a strong set of principles to guide pupils in the future.
The meeting was a wonderful opportunity for the children to share ideas, listen to one another and work together on shaping the future of their school. We are incredibly grateful to the St Mary's School Council for visiting and look forward to continuing this exciting partnership in September.
