Year 2 step into a world of stories at The Story Museum

On 13th May, Year 2 enjoyed a magical, book-filled adventure to the Story Museum in Oxford — a place dedicated to celebrating the power of stories in all their forms.

The Museum exists to inspire learning, spark imagination and bring people together through storytelling, and our pupils certainly did all three!

This included a fantastic storytelling workshop led by Emily and Lucy from the Museum. The children listened carefully to a tale about a tiny trickster deer and a very hungry tiger, before working in groups to create their own exciting additions to the story. There was plenty of imaginative thinking, lively discussion, and confident sharing as each group presented their ideas to the room.

Afterwards, it was time to explore the Museum itself. In the Whispering Woods, the children discovered interactive historical tales and even tried their luck at pulling the sword from the stone - could one of them be the next king or queen of England?

The Dragon Room proved especially captivating, with four themed areas inspired by wind, earth, fire and water dragons. The children enjoyed dressing up, solving puzzles, drawing, exploring sensory experiences and diving into books — a space where their imagination truly came alive.

They also explored beautifully themed rooms inspired by much-loved stories including Winnie the Pooh, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Snowman.

After a well-earned packed lunch, the adventure continued with a peaceful walk through the grounds of Christ Church, Oxford. The children enjoyed watching the ducks, admiring the flowers, and finishing the day with a final play on the grass before heading back to school.

It was a truly enchanting day full of stories, creativity and discovery — a visit Year 2 will not forget!
