Year 4's PGL adventure

Year 4 set off on a bright, sunny Wednesday morning in May, headed for Osmington Bay, the PGL centre in Dorset.

Excitement was high on arrival, as the cliffs were bathed in sunshine and they quickly headed to their first activity - the zipwire, closely followed Archery, where budding Robin Hoods showed off their skills. After they finished, the children discovered who their roommates were going to be for the next two nights, which is always the highlight of any residential!  Then a quick supper, before the evening activities started. They faced various challenges set by ‘Pirate Archie’ and rescued treasure, lit by the beautiful setting sun.

After an undisturbed night, a filling breakfast and a triple check that they had all the correct kit, the children were loaded on to a bus and taken to the harbour where the Raft Building began. The children showed incredible teamwork and collaborative skills to build their rafts before heading out onto the water. Despite the chilly water temperature, the children took part in some great games with many of them happy to plunge into the water. On return to the PGL centre, they explored the grounds as Eco Warriors, learning about many of the mammals, fish, birds and insects that live there. They also took part in some extraordinarily challenges and problem solving activities, where their leadership and cooperative skills were put to the test. The day was rounded off with a fantastic campfire session, complete with songs and obligatory marshmallows.

Another perfect night went by, before the children threw themselves into the final activities of the visit – the climbing wall and ‘Survivor’. Again, the children impressed their teachers with their adventurous spirit, support for each other and overwhelming positivity.
