Celebrating NSPCC National Number Day

Rupert House marked NSPCC National Number Day on Friday, 6th February with a full day of engaging, mathematics-themed activities, all in support of a very worthwhile cause.

Pupils across the school took part in a practical Maths challenge by bringing in vegetables to support hands-on learning. Children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 brought carrots, while pupils in Years 3 to 6 arrived armed with potatoes. These were used throughout the day to explore concepts of length, weight and volume, bringing Maths to life in a fun and memorable way.

Fundraising was also at the heart of the day. For a £1 donation to the NSPCC, pupils were invited to enter a “guess the number of sweets in the jar” competition. Three jars were available - one for Nursery and Reception, one for Years 1 and 2, and one for the Prep School - with the closest guess winning the jar of sweets. All proceeds will be donated to the NSPCC, Britain’s oldest child welfare charity.

During Maths lessons, each year group focused on a special number, using it as the basis for investigations and problem-solving activities. The numbers explored included 10, 100, 1,000, 0.1, n², and π, allowing pupils of all ages to deepen their understanding in age-appropriate and creative ways.

In addition, children joined live online events and activities hosted by the NSPCC, connecting them with schools across the country taking part in the celebrations.

It was a fantastic day of learning, collaboration and generosity, and the school was delighted to raise money for such an important charity while inspiring pupils to enjoy and explore Maths in new ways.
