Supporting our community: Year 6 visit Henley foodbank

Over the past two weeks, pupils, families, and staff at our school have been generously donating food and household items in support of the Henley Foodbank, which is run by the NOMAD Youth and Community Project.

Today, our Year 6 pupils had the special opportunity to deliver over 60 bags of donations to the D2 Centre, where the foodbank is based. They were warmly welcomed by Jaco Brewer, a key member of the NOMAD team, who spoke to the children about the vital work the charity does to support local families.

Jaco gave our pupils a tour of the foodbank, explaining how donations from the school - and others in the community - are carefully sorted and packed into parcels. These parcels, around 250 in total, are then distributed to families across the local area who are in need of extra support.

One fun fact the children enjoyed learning was that the most commonly donated item is baked beans, while the most appreciated (but rarely donated) treats are chocolates, crisps, and biscuits!

We are incredibly proud of our pupils for their compassion and commitment, and we’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated. Your generosity will make a real difference in our local community.
