New starters share their feelings in the Prep Happy Hub

This week, all our new Prep starters were warmly welcomed into the Happy Hub, where they had the opportunity to share how they’ve been feeling as they begin their journey at Rupert House.
Together, the children explored the idea that starting a new school can feel a little daunting—especially when meeting a new teacher or not yet knowing their classmates. They learned that it’s perfectly normal to feel nervous, excited, or even a mix of both when going through big changes.
In a thoughtful group discussion, the children talked about healthy ways to manage those feelings. They shared the activities and strategies that have helped them settle in, such as drawing, playing outside, cuddling a pet, reading a favourite book, joining in a game, or talking to a teacher.
With great creativity, the children then worked on a special project - filling in a “settling-in rucksack” with all the things, people, and activities that bring them comfort and confidence. Each rucksack was unique, just like the children themselves, and the activity encouraged a lovely message: we are all different, and it’s important to respect and support one another.
Mrs Sheriff was delighted to see how well the new starters are settling into life at Rupert House and is proud of the way they are learning to express their feelings and support each other.
