Year 5 explore Japan’s Mountains

Year 5 completed their Geography topic on 'Mountains' this term by having a video call with an expert in public policy, sustainability, and the natural (and very mountainous) environment of Japan.
Alex Hutchins, a Sustainability Strategy Specialist working in Tokyo (and an old friend of Mr Dwinell's from university in the USA), spoke with the students about the mountains of Japan, his life in Japan over the last six years after moving there from California, and his professional expertise on Japanese geography.
The children asked great questions about the physical and human geography of Japan, and Alex shared fascinating details about his work and travels.
Despite the eight-hour time difference, it was fun and rewarding to talk with someone on the other side of the world with such interesting life experiences!
