30th January 2026

We had numerous out of school activities this week including trips to Henley Bowls Club for Year 3 to learn about the river and to Winchester Science Centre for Year 1, and visits to Crosfields and Reddam House for Prep fixtures in Netball and Rugby.

The school Council and Food Council also met this week to discuss issues that matter to the children and to provide feedback to the school kitchen. The Prep children enjoyed a taste challenge with Chapter One this week – exploring a variety of sweet, salty, sour and bitter foods. You can find out more about these in the school new stories here.

On Monday in assembly we heard about the fascinating academic journey Dr Sarah Eilon has been on with dyslexia, including studying Zoology at Cambridge followed by a career change and retraining as a doctor. Sarah's message was a powerful one, encouraging the children to work at what they struggle with and enjoy what they are good at. She talked about the importance of teams being made up of people with a range of perspectives and how we should celebrate our differences and we shouldn't be afraid to ask for help.

Our Year 2 children also enjoyed a French breakfast yesterday, dressed in the colours of the French flag, with some sporting ‘typically French’ accessories including moustaches, berets and onion garlands! They had lots of opportunities to practise ordering in French and Madame Sheriff was impressed by the children’s spoken language skills. Well done Year 2!

Yesterday, we also had our annual Review Day, which is effectively a mock inspection, led by a current ISI Inspector and three senior staff from other Wishford Schools. The day went very well and the team were most impressed with, among other things, the children's enthusiasm for learning, the ways in which they were appropriately stretched and supported, their enjoyment of collaborative learning and the relaxed and happy atmosphere they noted both inside the classroom and around school.
