Year 6 Outdoor Adventure Day at Shiplake College

As part of our Year 6 Leavers’ Programme, pupils enjoyed an unforgettable Outdoor Adventure Day on Monday 16th June—an experience that combined challenge, exploration, and a whole lot of fun.
The day began with an 8km hike through local fields, woodlands, and country lanes, starting from school and finishing at the picturesque grounds of Shiplake College. Spirits were high as the children embraced the physical challenge and the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful countryside together.
On arrival at Shiplake, the group crossed the River Thames by boat to reach The Lynch, Shiplake College’s private island and the setting for the afternoon’s activities. Once on the island, pupils took part in a series of exciting outdoor tasks, including a mapping challenge, fire-lighting with flint and steel, and team exploration exercises. They even enjoyed time on a rope swing, making the most of their time in nature.
The Outdoor Adventure Day is just one of several events planned to celebrate and support our Year 6 pupils as they prepare to move on to secondary school. Days like these offer not just enjoyment, but also valuable opportunities to develop teamwork, resilience, and independence.
We are extremely grateful to Shiplake College for hosting such a memorable and enriching day for our children.
