Year 2’s trip to Milestones Museum: A journey into the Victorian era

Year 2 embarked on an exciting full-day adventure to Milestones Museum this week, stepping back in time to experience life in the Victorian era. It was a fully immersive experience and they absolutely loved it!

Their first challenge was to bravely enter a strict Victorian schoolroom, where girls and boys were seated separately and silence was strictly enforced. The children looked the part too! The girls wore traditional pinafores, and the boys looked very smart in their waistcoats. They learned how to use an abacus and practised writing in Victorian cursive using chalkboards.

Later, the children explored the Victorian village, where they were given a mission to help the local shopkeeper prepare for the Queen’s Jubilee. However, the shopkeeper had made a number of mistakes. Luckily, our sharp-eyed pupils were able to spot them all!

The day ended with an exciting tour around the immersive Victorian street, discovering everything from factories, mills, and fire engines, to trams, ironmongers, and saddle shops. Of course, no visit would be complete without a trip to the sweet shop to buy some traditional penny sweets, a perfect end to a brilliant day.
