Preparing for Change in the Happy Hub

This week in the Happy Hub, a small group of Year 4 children took time to reflect on their feelings about moving up to Year 5.
They shared a range of emotions—excitement, but also worry, nervousness, and anxiety—realising that these feelings are a normal part of experiencing change.
The children discussed concerns such as upcoming assessments, using new devices, and getting to know a new teacher. To help with the transition, they were invited to draw a “travel bag” filled with things that could support them on their journey to Year 5. These included calming activities, supportive family members, pets, and comforting objects.
The session highlighted that each “bag” was unique, just like each child. It was a lovely reminder that everyone has different needs, and the importance of respecting and supporting one another during times of change.
