Exploring emotions through colour

In the Happy Hub, a small group of Year 4 children were invited to explore the colours they associate with different emotions.

They created their own emotion colour palettes and quickly discovered that everyone’s palette is unique—red might mean anger for one person but happiness for another.

The children then reflected on their day, choosing a shape to represent it before adding the colours linked to the emotions they had experienced. They learned that it’s completely normal to feel many different emotions throughout the day—sometimes even within a few minutes.

Together, they discussed how recognising strong emotions can help us manage them using healthy, positive strategies.
