Growing tin the Prep Happy Hub

This week in the Happy Hub, a small group of Year 3 children took part in a thoughtful and creative session exploring what is important to them, recognising their strengths, and considering how they can continue to grow.

The children began by drawing a plant or flower. The roots represented the foundations of their lives - the people and values that matter most to them, such as family, love and friendship. The stem and petals symbolised their individual strengths and interests, including art, music, reading and many more talents. Many of the children were pleasantly surprised to discover they had far more strengths than they had first realised.

The group then reflected on what helps them to grow and develop. They illustrated this as a watering can, filling it with all the things that help their “plant” to flourish: support from family and teachers, encouragement, practice, perseverance, and even making mistakes.

A rich discussion followed about the importance of learning from mistakes, trying new activities and not giving up when challenges arise. Mrs Sheriff was incredibly impressed by the children’s positive attitudes and strong growth mindset.

It was a wonderful session of reflection, creativity and confidence-building in the Happy Hub.
