Food Council's spooky snack!
Today, the newly elected Food Council - featuring two representatives from each year group, from Reception through to Year 6 - met for the first time this term.
Joining them were our catering manager and head chef Barry from Chapter One, along with our Pastoral Lead, Mrs Newman.
The meeting kicked off with a review of this term’s snack menu. Each council member gave a thumbs up or down based on feedback from their classmates. The verdict? Hummus with crudités was not a hit, but the banana cake, white chocolate flapjacks, and cheese & tomato paninis were very popular.
Next, the group reviewed the lunch menus in the same way. Clear favourites included the pizza, chicken tikka masala, and roast lunch. There was also a strong request for more desserts - especially the current favourite: sticky toffee pudding!
Having consulted their classmates in advance, the council came prepared with a list of suggestions for Barry:
- A veggie curry for Meat-Free Mondays
- Wraps as an option on Meat-Free Mondays
- Bring back veggie hotdogs
- Offer fruit at Breakfast Club
- Gingerbread men at Christmas
- Fruit juices in addition to (or instead of) milk at break times
- Pizzas for National Pizza Day
- Cinnamon rolls as a snack
- No more brownies with hidden veg!
- More sushi days
- Bring back the energy balls as a snack
- Hot chocolate with snacks on cold days
As is tradition at each Food Council meeting, the kitchen provided a new item for the children to taste test. This time, they tried a spooky Halloween treat: a giant marshmallow on a digestive biscuit, topped with green goo made from white chocolate! Everyone gave it a thumbs up—and it will make a surprise appearance on the menu during the final week before half term.
