Exploring Sea Life in Brighton

Year 2 had a fantastic trip to Sea Life Brighton this week, where they had an exciting time discovering a wide range of sea creatures.

They were especially thrilled to meet a clever octopus who loves constructing Lego, majestic turtles who have been rescued, and are an amazing 85 years old, get up close to some ‘fearsome’ sharks in the ocean tunnel and were continuously mesmerised by the dazzling colourful Coral Reef exhibits.

One of the highlights was a workshop where the children discovered various sea and coastal habitats and the creatures that live in them. They learned about the different ‘super powers’ some sea animals have and how their unique abilities help them adapt and survive in their environments. They were astonished to learn that Blue Whales dive as deep as the "midnight zone" to catch their food, but if they go any deeper, they could ‘explode’ due to the immense pressure!

The children were also intrigued to discover that seahorses, despite their delicate appearance, are actually quite poor swimmers! In fact, many seahorses can be found in Kelp Forests, where the dense vegetation provides plenty of places to anchor themselves and hide from predators

To finish off a wonderful seaside adventure, the children enjoyed a delicious ice cream on Brighton’s famous pebbled beach, breathing in the fresh sea air—a perfect way to end the day!
