A dazzling Bethlehem Ballroom

Families filled the hall as the Year 1 and 2 children took to the stage for their dazzling Christmas production, Bethlehem Ballroom.

The show offered a lively and imaginative twist on the traditional nativity story, blending timeless biblical events with the unexpected glamour of a bustling ballroom.

The idea for the script sprang from imagining what might have happened as crowds of people arrived in Bethlehem to be registered for the Census. While no historical records mention inns transforming into dance halls, the play explores the very real sense of community that would have grown among travellers - people sharing stories of their journeys, enjoying food and drink, and perhaps even taking in some entertainment.

Bethlehem Ballroom takes these possibilities and playfully exaggerates them, all while carefully preserving the familiar structure and meaning of the nativity story. The result was a performance that gave the children the chance to learn, explore, and have fun on stage.

Parents and staff praised the confidence and enthusiasm of the children, who sang, danced, and acted their way through the festive tale with charm and energy. From shepherds perfecting their dance steps to innkeepers hosting an unexpected party, the children brought warmth and humour to every moment.

The KS1 performance of Bethlehem Ballroom captured the spirit of the season beautifully!
