9th May 2025

This week, Year 5 enjoyed an action-packed 4-day trip to Cuffley Camp where they had lots of fun in the great outdoors.
I enjoyed seeing all the photos of them climbing, exploring, balancing, running and even making their own pizza! I know many of them are tired after their adventure and hope they have a restful weekend to recharge.
Back at school, the rest of the year groups have also been busy. Year 1 and 2 had an inspiring visit from Claire at Inventors & Makers. She introduced them to the world of engineering – teaching them about real engineers who turned their love for Art and Maths into amazing careers, even working on Disney films!
Year 2 and 3 enjoyed a fantastic day of activities together, both in and out of the classroom. From blindfold challenges and rope untangling to collaborative art and limbo, the children had a great time learning, laughing, and working together. The day provided a wonderful opportunity for Year 2 to strengthen their friendships with Year 3 in preparation for their transition to the Prep School in September.
VE Day 80
Yesterday, I joined a group of Year 6 pupils who, with other schools from across Henley, met at the Town Hall to commemorate VE Day 80 yesterday. Dressed as evacuees, they stepped back in time to learn about life on the Home Front during WWII - including experiencing an air raid practice! The morning ended with a traditional fish and chip lunch and a two-minute silence to honour those who gave their lives. The event was captured by ITV Meridian and features Alex and Millie. You can watch it here (from about 5 minutes 30 seconds).
To remember the end of the Second World War in Europe, each year also group performed a wartime ‘classic’ which Mrs Light has made into a wonderful medley. You can view it here: VE Day Celebration.mp4
Staffing News
I am pleased to share the lovely news that Mrs Miller is expecting her second child in October. We are very excited for her and her husband and will wish her all the very best when she goes on maternity leave in the early Autumn. We have already begun the search for a teacher to cover her absence and are confident that we will find someone who is able to step into her shoes, so to speak, with a detailed handover.
Henley Regatta Drinks
I would like to invite all parents and grandparents to join us for a drink on Thursday 4th July in Butler’s Field at Henley Regatta. Please pop along during the lunchtime break in racing from 12 until approximately 2pm for a glass of bubbly and a light snack. There is more information on this in the letter below. Stewards' Tickets for Y6 Henley Regatta Trip
If by any chance you have any spare Stewards' Enclosure tickets for Tuesday 1st July, the Year 6 children would be most grateful for them so that we can take them into the enclosure as part of their Leavers' trip. Seeing the silverware, sitting in the deckchairs and meeting those connected with the school there is a real highlight for them! Please contact the Office if you are able to spare any tickets.
If you have not yet signed up to the Great School Run on Sunday 18th May – please do so using this link: The Great School Run The Great School Run of Henley. The weather is looking promising at the moment for a lovely morning in the beautiful grounds of Stonor Park.
Finally, Monday is the last day for dropping in entries for the 'Portrait of a Loved One' Art competition to the Office.
I hope you have a lovely weekend in what looks to be gorgeous weather!
