1st March 2024

Thank you to all those who came along to one of the two meetings this week to discuss the exciting news that Rupert House is to join the Wishford Schools Group.

I very much hope that, following these meetings and the Q&A document which was sent via email, you now have more of an understanding of the rationale for the decision which the Governors have made. If you do have any further questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch via office@ruperthouse.oxon.sch.uk. The governors, senior leadership team and I are delighted to have found a partner in Wishford who shares our values and can fully realise our ambitions for Rupert House which will enhance the already outstanding education we deliver to our pupils. The staff have been overwhelmingly positive in response to the news and have already started discussing ways in which they look forward to working with their counterparts in other schools within the group.

Although this news may have dominated the week somewhat, the children have been busy as usual. There were numerous trips offsite with the Year 3 pupils going back to Roman times at the Verulamium Museum and Year 6 also delved into the First World War at the Trenchard Museum at RAF Halton. I always enjoy accompanying the pupils on this trip and this year was no exception. Year 5 continued their DT and art workshops with Leighton Park School and a group of them also attended a poetry performance day at Pangbourne College earlier in the week.

Back in school, I hope that those who came to watch their children audition for House Music enjoyed the performances and well done to all those children who took part. As Mrs Light said this morning, she has heard over 100 individual performances this week!  Thank you to everyone who attended the Pre-Prep and Year 3 parents evenings.

Unfortunately, the rain put a stop to some of the sporting activities and fixtures this week, but the Year 2 boys managed to enjoy a rubgy challenge afternoon at Reddam House school on Tuesday where they put up a good fight against both Reddam House and Papplewick in the team matches. Well done everyone!

Little Blue Door

Can you design a new heading for the next issue of Little Blue Door to be used in the next issue? Please hand any entries into the office by 8th March.

Next week

Henley Youth Festival takes place next week and most year groups will be involved in some way. There are lots of exciting events planned which include The Rude Science Show at The Kenton for Year 4 and The Big Sing at the Town Hall for the Chamber Choir. You do not need to worry about where and when your children are going as all the events take place during the school day and they will return for normal collection from school (unless you are told otherwise). Please can I ask that Years 4, 5 and 6 bring in their blazers on Thursday and Friday when they will be going off site. There are also a number of other events happening next week including trips, parents evenings and World Book Day. Please make sure you check the letters section for more information, and the calendar below and on My School Portal for dates and times.

Good luck to everyone taking part in the Henley Youth Festival run on Saturday, the Music Makers concert here in the Rupert House school hall on Sunday and the Year 5 team running in the National Primary School Cross-Country Championships also over the weekend!

Best wishes,

Nick Armitage
