30th June 2023

Henley Royal Regatta and Prep performance week always come along at the same time and this makes for a fun, busy week at school.

Oliver! Jr.

The Prep children put on four amazing shows at the Kenton of Oliver! Jr. on Tuesday and Wednesday, performing to a packed theatre on both evenings. They performed a matinee to local care home residents on Wednesday, which they enjoyed enormously. The children have been rehearsing since the Spring term and all their hard work and dedication certainly paid off. I hope that you enjoyed watching them as much as I did. As I mentioned at the end of the performances, the children all seemed so much older when on-stage and their confidence and professionalism was remarkable for children of such a young age.

Regatta

Yesterday, Mrs Harris, Miss Gibbon, Mrs Smith and I took the Year 6 pupils to Henley Regatta for the afternoon. They enjoyed visiting the Stewards' Enclosure and a tour of Leander Club with one of their athletes before taking a Hobbs boat cruise up to the start and then walking the course. The children met international athletes, watched top-level racing, and enjoyed some of the social side - well, the food stalls certainly!

Make £5 Grow

The Year 6 children showed fabulous creativity and entrepreneurial skills when they took on the Make £5 Grow challenge a couple of weeks ago. They were each given £5 which they used to create some wonderful things to sell to the rest of the school. In total, they made £563 which they are going to divide between a trip to the cinema, make a charity donation and each Year 6 pupil will be ordering a copy of their favourite book and adding a bookplate with their name on to donate to the school.

Next week

Next week is the last week of the summer term and the final week of the academic year. We are looking forward to welcoming parents into school for a number of occasions – for the Pre-Prep performances of Eddie the Penguin Saves the World, the Picnic Concert, Pre-Prep prize-giving, Prep Speech Day at Phyllis Court and the Year 6 Leavers Drinks to follow. Please see the letter below for details on timings and arrangements and please also remember that there will be no clubs except for breakfast club, homework club and aftercare.

I wish those taking their ABRSM music exams next week the best of luck and hope that all the children are looking forward to this last action-packed week of term.
