The Great School Run of Henley 2023

The second annual 'The Great School Run of Henley' took place on Sunday 30th April at Stonor Park.

This year the event was hosted by Education Henley - a recently formed initiative linking all pre-schools and schools in the local area - and was once again held on the grounds of the stunning Stonor Park near Henley. Fortunately, the rain held off and everyone was able to enjoy a dry run from start to finish.

Almost 300 children and adults took part in the event which is free to enter. Kicking off at 9am, the morning consisted of a series of cross-country races for children and their parents or carers. The various race routes were designed to be an age-appropriate distance for each year group: from the tiniest sprinters in the nursery running 340 metres to the seasoned runners in Year 11 who joined the adults on the 1840 metre course. Super speedy hares guided the way and marshals lined the routes to ensure everyone found their way to the finish line.

The top 3 finishes in each race received eco-friendly medals and everyone else was awarded with a certificate and sticker. Michelle Thomas, the Mayor of Henley, and our Head, Mr Armitage, awarded the medals following each race.

This year, a shiny silver cup, sponsored by The Mayor, was awarded to the school with the most participants (relative to the size of their school). Congratulations to Badgemore Primary who were this year's winners!

The event is free to enter, but this year donations to Sue Ryder were encouraged. A total of £430 has been raised so far. Donations can still be made via this link: The Great School Run is fundraising for Sue Ryder (justgiving.com)
