23rd September 2022

This week has been a very moving one, with the children reflecting on the Queen's Funeral on Monday.

I was impressed with just many had wanted to watch the events through the course of the day and the way in which they have been able to articulate what it meant to them personally. It has also been fascinating to hear from children and staff who had observed certain aspects of the day in person, which would have been very special.

Parent Drinks and Move to Think

It was lovely to have such a good turnout of the current and new parents on Thursday night at our first School social event of the academic year. We heard from Georgie Lamb, the new Chair of the Friends, about her plans for the year and she encouraged all parents to come forward with ideas and offers of help. Doug McArthur and Nick Potter, one of our Governors, spoke about Move to Think and the science behind it respectively, and the delicious nibbles and drinks were enjoyed by all.

Greener Henley Prize

Well done to last year's Year 6 who have won an award in the Greener Henley Science Competition. They designed and made an insect hotel and their project can be seen in the exhibition of children's work in Market Place on Saturday 24th September from 10am-4pm.

Photographs on Thursday

Please ensure your children are looking smart when they come into school on Thursday, as individual photographs are being taken through the day.

Forest School Opening on Friday

We are looking forward to the official opening of the new Forest School on Friday, with Ben Fogle coming to do the honours in front of the whole school. The Pre-Prep children will be spending the morning in Forest School up to and including the opening at 10am, while the Prep children will be undertaking all sorts of fun and educational activities from the opening up to lunchtime. Please ensure the children come into school in their games kit that morning (there is no need to bring in their uniform) and we will take the children up to Forest School at the appropriate time. We look forward to sharing pictures with you of the morning!

Macmillan Coffee Afternoon on Friday

Please do come and join us for the annual Macmillan Coffee afternoon which we are planning to take place from 2.30pm on the lawn. Nursery parents are very kindly providing some delicious cakes, which I, for one, am very much looking forward to!

And finally...

We received a lovely email from the parent of a child at another school, following the Greys Court Cross-Country event last Saturday. They wanted to share their gratitude to our parents, staff and children for the encouragement they had given in particular to their child to encourage them to finish their race. They appreciated out sportsmanship and generosity of spirit and were keen that I share their sincere thanks with the wider parent body. To me, this says a huge amount about the Rupert House community. Many thanks one and all.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend together.

Best wishes,

Nick Armitage
