There are four houses at Rupert House: Amazon, Nile, Everest and Sahara. Children are appointed to a house when they enter the school. Siblings join their brothers or sisters in their house. Staff are affiliated to houses and help run individual house meetings during each term.
Each House has a Year 6 house captain who is appointed at
the beginning of each new term. The house captains are responsible for helping
to oraganise different events during the year.
Belonging to a house provides opportunities for the children to meet and work with others who they do not necessarily see during the day. It is one more layer of belonging, one more opportunity to share ideas, games, experiences and fun and to join in the give and take of school life.
A star reward system is in place for individual achievement, good behaviour, attitude and effort. While the children get individual certificates for different levels of stars, the house with the most stars gets the House Cup at the end of each term.
The children represent their houses in various sporting activities during the year: swimming galas, hockey, netball and rounders tournaments as well as on Sports day in the summer term. Staff and children are currently focusing on exploring other exciting ways in which the house system can add new dimensions to school life. We will keep you posted!
