The School Council is a forum for class representatives to meet on a regular basis to address issues that concern each year group or class and to generally move the school forward. It provides a wonderful opportunity for the children to see democracy in action and gives them a personal stake in the running of the school.

At the beginning of every new school year two children are elected from their year group to represent them on the council. A member of staff oversees the running of meetings. Representatives take ideas from their form to meetings and report back on what has taken place.

Some of the key decisions made by the council recently have been to change the house names, monitor and lessen the school’s carbon footprint and improve the seating in the dining room at lunch time. All highly commendable! Children are practising taking responsibility for how the school can grow as a community and have risen to the challenge with real character and spirit.
