Introduction

Throughout the school year pupils from Rupert House support a range of local and national charities through various activities. One of the main charities that has enjoyed our continued support over the past few years is the NSPCC. In addition to raising money we also invite visiting speakers to school to raise pupils’ awareness of how their charitable donations can begin to make a difference to the lives of the many less fortunate people in the world.

Sometimes pupils wish to initiate a fund raising activity following a news item or television programme that has caught their attention. We try to support these initiatives but we are also conscious of the many demands that are placed on parents to make donations.

In addition we support the Henley Youth Festival and have two representatives on the Henley Town Youth Council.

Two senior members of the School Council represent the school on the Henley Town Youth Council, which is a body made up of students from across the primary and senior schools in Henley-on-Thames.

The children attend meetings four times a year with a member of staff and report back to the School Council. This gives the girls an opportunity to meet children from other schools and to listen to and share ideas on issues that affect the young people of our town. This is one more opportunity for us to be a part of democracy in action.

We also visit a local senior citizens’ home to entertain them at Christmas.
