Policy and procedure

Policy for Admissions

The school keeps an admissions register for each term of entry into Nursery / Reception year groups and, as parents register their children their names are added to that register. A non-returnable registration fee is charged. Children are admitted to the school according to the following criteria:

  • A total of 40 / 42 pupils are admitted each academic year.
  • Children are admitted to the school in the term following their 4 th birthday
  • Although pupils are entered for the correct term of entry there may be occasions when for parental preference or because of pressure for places, pupils would be considered for a later term of entry as long as it was still within the same academic year group.
  • Once the spaces have been filled names are put on to a waiting list in the order of registration. Parents are told when they look round the school whether, at that stage, there is a definite place for their child or a waiting list place.
  • Priority is given to siblings already in the school.
  • It is the policy of the school to take pupils in to the correct year group.
  • Parents on our lists are contacted about 2 years prior to the start date for their child to ask if they still require a place. At that time, or at anytime when we are told that a place is no longer required, we invite the next pupil on the waiting list to take the place.
  • It is the duty of the parents to disclose information on their child's health or learning needs.
  • The school will make all reasonable adjustments to ensure that prospective parents, who are disabled, are not placed at a substantial disadvantage by comparison with non disabled pupils.

Entry into Years 1 to 6 is dependent on there being a place available and on the pupil spending a half or full day in school where they will be assessed. The pupil’s behaviour and social interaction will also be monitored. We also assess whether the prospective pupil will fit within what Rupert House can offer allowing for any reasonable adjustments to be made.

Confirmation of entry

About one year before entry, parents are required to pay a deposit and sign a ‘Confirmation of Entry’ contract which binds them to giving a full term’s notice of withdrawal or paying a term’s fees in lieu of notice. The deposit is non-returnable in the event of a pupil not taking up his / her place.

Application Process

To discuss admission for your child please telephone the school secretary on 01491 574263. You will be asked for details regarding the names and dates of birth of pupils, current schools if applicable and likely year of entry.
