At Rupert House French is taught to all pupils from Years 1-6. The emphasis is on enjoyment, so as to develop a love of languages and confidence in speaking.
The children learn a wide range of vocabulary through songs and games, listening, computer and whiteboard activities and role play. Reading and writing skills are developed along side oral work, initially through solving puzzles and labelling pictures and gradually expanding into description and dialogue.
The French Room is always full of posters that display the pupils’ artistic and IT skills as well as their knowledge of French.
All the topics recommended by the National Curriculum for French at Key Stage 2 are covered.
During the Spring and Summer terms of Year 6 the girls also have a chance to experience a second language as they learn how to introduce themselves, talk about food and school and describe their families and pets in Spanish. |
